Rule 206(4)-7 trading policy

Trade Error Log

Every trade error, the day it is found, with the correction, who bore the cost, and proof the client was made whole. The log your trading policy promises and examiners ask for.

A Spreadsheet Is Not a Control

Your trading policy says errors are reported, corrected at the firm’s cost, logged, and reviewed for patterns.

Most firms keep trade errors in a spreadsheet, if they keep them anywhere. When an examiner asks for the log, the question is whether every error is there, whether each one shows the client was made whole, and whether anyone looked for patterns. The platform keeps the log in the same place as the rest of your program, enforces the made-whole rule, and carries the entries into the annual review on its own.

How It Works

Three steps, in the order your policy asks for them

01

Report it the day it is found

Anyone on the team can report an error: trade date, the account as you refer to it, the security, what went wrong and a sentence on what happened. The compliance team is notified the moment it is saved.

02

Record the correction

Compliance records how it was fixed (cancel and rebill, firm error account, reimbursement), the date, the gain or loss, who bore a loss and where a gain went.

03

Close it only when the client is whole

The platform will not resolve an error while the client is still out of position. Either the client was made whole or the entry records a gain or no loss. Your name and the time are kept as the review.

Error Types Tracked

So the quarterly pattern review has something to compare
